How email is different to traditional postal mail, faxes and texts?
Traditional mail (Royal Mail:
- Email is much faster, but feels less special than a letter, is often written much less formally. There are no postage costs.
Fax:
- Email is Cheaper, usually faster, but a little more complex if you want to send a copy of something already on paper. Email doesn't need paper or a fax machine.
Texts / SMS:
- Email is a lot like texting but a little bit more formal – especially when applying for a job. Email shares a lot of similar features to SMS. If you have used SMS, email will be easy to pick up because you will be familiar with the system that uses Inbox, Sent and Drafts folders. An SMS is sent from a phone number which is linked to the SIM card in the phone. An email is sent from an email address. Many Email services allow you to access and send messages using your own personal account from any device with internet access. It could be your own computer, a computer in a library, from a friend's house or even or an internet café in Hong Kong.
